Community Faces is a public art wheatpasting project installed in multiple locations across Downtown Knoxville in the summer of 2019. The project was a collaborative effort involving the board of A1LabArts and The Big Camera, as well as many individual volunteers, city residents, and local businesses. The project is a simple attempt to promote community interaction and ultimately compassion as a response to increasing awareness of perceived divisions. Hundreds of individual portraits were captured of individuals in communities around downtown Knoxville, Tennessee, and installed on available walls of several cooperative local businesses. Though intensive in scale, the project is a simple gesture intended to serve as an emblem of civic pride and as a reminder of the importance of kindness, collaboration and cooperation.
